[ the real tragedy is that nick probably could have found him, with a scrap of faith in his own abilities, but he absolutely hates to try anything he might not naturally be good at. instead he lazily wanders the halls with the snake guiding his way, and by the time he's turned several halls nick is feeling quite fond of the whole system. maybe he'll try to figure out a way to recreate it.
at any rate, it doesn't take long to track lucifer down. nick twists his hand, watches the snake slither along the skin of his fingers to always point towards its north star, before he approaches with an easy smile. nick already sells faintly like weed and magic, something of a default state for him, but fresher, more recent, a dead giveaway for what he's been spending his afternoon doing. ]
I'm really glad I'm not the only one who gets lost here, because so many people seem to have a system I was starting to think I was the only one.
( it is indeed a tragedy βΒ luci is prone to forgetfulness and misplacing sense, so he hadn't remembered the feeling of nick's magic up until it came front and center to him. not at all lacking, really. wholly capable. in fact, back at home, he'd probably be in the running to be a sacrificial bride to lucifer, for his power. how weird.
standing, luci deposits the bird on his head, who he's spent enough time with that it doesn't immediately take to flight. cupping nick by his cheeks, he leans in and places a kiss on his forehead, almost paternally. )
I can't make heads or tails of it. But I also haven't tried. ( very warmly, ) How are you?
[ nick is tender and soft with all things animal shaped and the bird atop lucifer's head is so different, his nose scrunches as he smiles up at it, but he's only momentarily distracted. he's an affectionate type himself, so a greeting like this suits him quite well, even if everyone he's ever met is determined to point out to nick how stupid he is, to entertain any kind of kindness with the devil. ]
Good, actually. It's not so bad here. [ he understands the issues, but for himself--well, it's a little more complicated. he's surrounded by people that he loves and misses dearly, back home. there are more than enough spaces for him to practice the parts of magic that he likes. almost everyone seems to be hot and horny.
there's not a whole lot for him to dislike yet, really. not even this whole business of an apparent pact with satan. on the list of bad decisions that nick has made, it just doesn't register particularly high if he's honest. ] Does the bird have a name?
( it's not so bad, as long as luci functionally puts the caged dog parts of his psyche into locked treasure chests, and swiftly loses the keys. the house is big and mysterious and full of magic β lauralae is here, his new bride, and adam is newly here, his ... something. all in all, things are turning up luci. (if you forget he was arrested last month, and also that he has zero ability for mario kart.)
taller than nick by a bit, luci slowly bends his knees, so he can see the bird on his head more closely. )
Not that he told me, but I didn't ask. ( leaning in with a very direct bit of eye contact, luci pushes their foreheads together. the bird hops from one nest of hair to the next, settling down on nick's head. luci pulls back and straightens up, arms stretched above his head. ) You can name him. He'll be off soon to go eat a worm βΒ maybe Wormeater? Birds are very hungry creatures.
( says luci, who knows exactly nothing about birds. unless a duck is a bird βΒ then he knows one, maybe two things. )
[ nick might as well have stars in his eyes as he casts them upwards enough to catch a glimpse of the bird hopping over onto his head, clearly enchanted by the whole situation. he's just got a lot of feelings towards anything nature-inclined, really, and animals tend to end up top of that list, though he's also been known to coax bedraggled, half-dead weeds back to life in a fit of sympathy. that's the energy that nick is bringing to the table as he reaches a hand up, slow and gentle with a finger held out just close enough that the bird can peck at it if it wishes. honestly, it doesn't even matter if the beak bites in too sharply, nick will just fix up any cuts and bruises later.
he had come here with a purpose though, even if he's been remarkably sidetracked by the bird he's naed only to probably never see again. that's fine, he'd never hold it against a creature for doing what they were built to do. ]
Everyone I know is freaking out about this...
